Testimonials

Bunmi Taiwo, Parent

I approached Rex in February 2018 to help me with my son’s behaviour. I was looking for a mentor for him, especially since he has been growing up around domestic abuse and had no real understanding of how he should be behaving.

My son started karate with Sensei Rex soon after my request. Since then he has become more accountable for his actions. He is now a lot calmer, less violent and more thoughtful and obedient. He hates to be reported for any wrongdoing and as a result he is always on his toes.

It has been such a pleasure and joy to watch the transformation in my son.

Thank you Rex.

Elizabeth Oladele, Parent

My daughter started karate over three years ago when she was 6 years old. She has thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to attend each weekly session.

Her personality has transformed and she has grown in confidence, which has also had a positive impact on her academics at school. As a parent I highly recommend karate. It builds leadership skills and discipline that will be useful in years to come.

Sensei Rex’s karate has taught me how rewarding it feels to gain through hard work, which is reflected in my daily life, especially academically.

His teaching involves a great balance of fun and discipline, two important aspects of learning new skills and now evident in the way I approach any type of work. (It also feels great to know I can kick ass when needed!)

Clare Jones, Parent

My son started karate when he was 5 year old and Rex was so much more than a Sensei – he was an instant role model. Rex has a positive energy that is infectious and an innate ability to strike the right balance between fun and discipline.

The lessons focus on karate skills but encapsulate vital life skills including honesty, integrity, tenacity, strength of character and courage. Students are given a voice and encouraged to give their opinions. Rex instils in every child that their behaviour at school and at home needs to be as impeccable as it is when he is with them in the lesson. Karate grading is not given if standards of behaviour are not met in these environments too.

My son has an ADHD diagnosis but in Rex’s class you leave labels at the door. He gets to know children individually and brings out the best in them in accordance with their ability. He demands respect, but gives it too.

My son has unfortunately left karate but Rex remains a positive influence in his life. I will always be grateful for his help and guidance.

If you have any worries or doubts about joining karate, don’t. It will be the best decision you will make. It was for me.

I was around 11 years old when I decided to join and no matter how scared I was, Sensei Rex made me feel like a part of the karate family. Over the years of training I fell in love with it as it taught me a lot from dedication, discipline and control.

Sensei Rex is extremely helpful and motivates you to work harder and harder to achieve the best you can be. Karate is an amazing way to work with others as during training you have to trust each other. I believe it is a fun way to release energy and gain confidence. It definitely was for me.

Over time I got the opportunity to teach the little kids, which taught me a lot about patience. I also got to see how they were able to concentrate more while enjoying it at the same time. I was glad to pass the skills and knowledge of karate that Sensei Rex once taught me to others.
Because we all accept one another it creates a great atmosphere for everyone.
