Engage for Behaviour Management

In recent years there has been growing public and political concern over the number of young people within schools and communities who are being identified as angry irresponsible youth. At all our schools, we have children and youth members with different talents and strengths from infants to Junior school to Secondary or Academy school students learning values and disciplines and applying them in their daily life.

Youth rebellion itself is a complex and multi-dimensional fact influenced by various interrelating events, and can be manifested in many ways including disengagement from normal activities, disruptive or antisocial behavior, and involvement in petty crime. Rebellion has been identified as a particular problem within schools, where it is seen and perceived to be characterised by increased levels of disruptive behavior, truancy, and exclusions, as well as falling academic standards and non-participation.

The Thurrock school of Karate is a club that has used it's martial skills as a "tool" intended to engage young people between the ages of 3 and 16, those following expected norms and meeting expected milestones, as well as those young people experiencing difficulties with one or more aspects of school and/or home life, resulting in active or passive rebellion.
